The family of Hay have owned the Castle since 1696 and, along with their dedicated staff, welcome guests to their home. The Castle retains a very intimate and personal feel, in spite of its historic grandeur and furnishings. The quiet professionalism of the staff make guests immediately welcome and comfortable.
The Dining Hall looks perfect for a medieval banquet, which was the original intention.
Bannockburn Castle is steeped in dramatic history. In the 1700s, Jacobite Rebels entered this hall and plotted violent treason within these walls. The Hay family, who still live in the Castle today, have an impressive record in dangerous rebellions.
In the 1500s they backed Mary Queen of Scots against Elizabeth I. They sided with Robert The Bruce in the early 1300s, when Bruce was just an optimistic upstart. And they even fought alongside Joan of Arc in France during the 1400s. These days they tend to the more amiable business of hosting holidays, weddings, reunions and romantic getaways.
Elegant soirees, joyous reunions, escapist fun, romantic privacy, wedding parties and birthday celebrations; Bannockburn Castle has hosted them all for centuries. It's a place to commune with the ghosts of the past and ignore the anxious pressures of modern life.
When taking exclusive use of a real, historic castle - which a couple can even book on their own during weekdays - a four poster bed is the romantic essential. There are four such rooms to choose from. There are also a further four double bedrooms, three twin rooms and a single. Of the nine bathrooms, five are en-suite.
Five centuries after its Norman construction in 1320, the Castle was rendered in the Gothic style, by celebrated architect, James Gillespie Graham. Today, another two centuries years down the line, it is still the Hay's family home, and a testament to living history. But this beautiful estate is about so much more than the castle at its heart. Whatever your special occasion you will never forget your stay here and will lose yourself in the magnificent grounds and grandeur.
If you get restless languishing in palatial splendour, there is, tennis, falconry, archery and croquet available at no extra charge. Castle staff can also arrange fishing - including salmon fishing on the famous River Tweed - and clay pigeon shooting. And there are four golf courses within a twenty minute drive, including one within walking distance. Quad-biking in a nearby hamlet is another option, though the traditionalist might prefer viewing the countryside on horseback; riding schools are just a little further afield.
Bannockburn castle: the perfect location for your special occassion, whether a family get together, wedding or celebration. This beautiful castle will not disappoint.
